Sarah and I went up to Foxboro, MA this weekend for the Jimmy Buffett concert. All of the guys went up to Buffalo this weekend to see the Bills/Broncos game (Erik's team, the Bronco's won, yippee, he was happy, sorry Mike!). They had a great time, one was even left behind, no need to speak of that...poor Stew.
Anyway, Sarah and I left Saturday afternoon, checked into our hotel and went to the concert that night. Let me paint a picture for you. On our way up in the car we were listening to the radio and people were already there tailgating. We couldn't believe it. We pull into town and almost everyone's car is painted, shark tales/fins on the cars, etc. All of the hotels were booked. I think we got the last room at the Residence Inn (awesome room by the way...this is where we set up our customers, little promo for Cartus LOL). Anyway, the desk clerk knew we were there for the concert somehow. Then we went out to dinner, had a few drinks and even the waitress new were out of towners there for the concert! What the heck, is this town so small that all of these peopled traveled here for Jimmy Buffett!?!?! Anyway, we get to the stadium and there are MILLIONS of cars everywhere. Some how with our great looks, we pull into the stadium parking lot, pay the $40 fee for parking and the parking attended waves us down like crazy, moves some cones for us and we get the last parking spot RIGHT near the exit! AWESOME! We couldn't even muster up the courage to get out of car to tailgate because these people were insane. We stayed in the car drinking our twelve pack and "people watched" for about an hour laughing our you know whats off at these people. These fans had been there for days it seemed like and brought their own sand, made little beaches at their cars, blow up pools, beach balls galore, tiki torches, grills, coolers and even portopotties in the backs of trucks, ok? Get the scene yet? That's not even the half of it. The show is about to start, so we pack it up and start following the thousands into the stadium. About the only thing we had in common with these folks were our flip flops. Yes, there were Hawaiian shirts on EVERYONE, hula skirts, coconut bras, parrot hats, cheeseburger hats, pirates, captains, I don't even know what some of the people were, but they sure did. We get into the stadium and our seats were on the floor. It was a hike and a half to get to our seats. We got a beer and paid a million dollars for it and then went ALL the way down to the floor just to be told to turn around and go all the way around the stadium back pretty much where we entered and go around that way b/c we had to get a bracelet to enter the floor. Finally we get cattled into the floor area, get our bracelet and find our seats. After pretty much spilling more of our drinks by running around, climbing stairs, we decide to get another one and then back to our seats. We found some bathrooms, walked around, got another beer and finally took our seats as the show was about to begin. After song #1, they took our unfinished beers and shut the entire stadium down for the remainder of the show, no more alcohol for these people. Probably a good thing b/c we would have been broke by the end with the prices and I didn't feel like being hungover the next day. We had a good enough buzz for ,two girls who never drink anymore so we completely enjoyed the show.
Now, for those of you who have ever been a "virgin" at a Rocky Horror Picture show live, then you will know how it was like for Sarah and I being our first time at a Jimmy Buffett concert. Years ago I went to my first Rocky Horror Picture show and not bringing the newspaper for the rain, or knowing what to do, etc, that was like the Buffett concert. I couldn't believe it! It was amazing. There was an older couple running around with a sign "Celebrating our 20 year anniversary with Buffett". They had been traveling the world for this guy for 20 years together. Crazy. There was the biggest age range of fans there, from 70 down to 6, yep little kiddies running around too. Everyone was your friend and everyone was having the times of their lives. We did too and my ears were ringing for the next couple of days. I also woke up the next day with a horrible cold and was out of work for 2 days, but I am recuperating now, so that is good.
Sarah took a couple of pics from her camera phone. Not sure what they are or how good they came out. She will be emailing them to me and if I am not too embarrassed, I will post them when I get them. We will see...
