Olivia's dr's appt went extremely well yesterday. I was so proud of her! It's amazing how much "older" she has gotten since Scott was born. The doctor was amazed with her and said how smart she is and that she is one of the best 3 year old patients she has ever had. Olivia did everything they asked of her and just sat there and then sang songs, said her ABC's, and counted for the doctor. They asked her if she could stand on one foot like a ballerina and of course she had to do that and then show off all of her other tricks. They took her blood pressure which she thought was so cool and then had to prick her foot and she said not a word. She even went potty in a cup!!! I almost cried I was so proud of her. She is still so small. 26 pounds and 35 1/2 inches. She is in the 10th percentile for weight and 25th percentile for height. The doctor said that is absolutely fine, she is just petite. You can say that again since I have friends who have kids that are like 2 years younger than Olivia and weigh more her!
Then the dreaded word..."shots"! I was told at her last doctor's office that she was all caught up on her shots until kindergarten, so I thought we were in the clear. It was her birthday and I felt so bad. She needed her MMR shot and so I decided since she was getting that, I would get her the flu shot as well since she is in school full time and with the new baby at home, it was a good idea. I have never given her the flu shot before and I have never had one myself, I wasn't too keen on them to begin with, but I thought that I should this time because of Scott.
I sat up on the table and put her on my lap facing me with her legs straddling me so I could squeeze her when the shots were given. They gave one in each leg. All she said was, "Ow, that hurts, why are you hurting me?" with tears in her eyes. Yeah, I cried because she was such a big girl and was being so good and then she doesn't understand why the nurse is hurting her. Poor thing, but she was a trooper and got dressed and was running around like a wild woman, so you would never have thought she just had 2 shots.
I asked the doctor about Scott while we were there since he has been on the lactose free formula for a week now and he seemed worse. She gave me a free case of Nutramigen, yikes, this stuff is more than double the price ofEnfamil and it smells soooo bad! He has had 3 bottles of it so far and so far so good. We will see though!
We are celebrating Olivia's birthday tonight at our house with family and just having pizza and cake, but she did go out to dinner last night with my mom, my step father, Aunt Laura and the kids and Aunt Pam (my stepfather's sister). They had a cake at the restaurant and sang Happy Birthday to her. Erik and I were home with cranky baby. She had so much fun. My aunt called me because they were going to bring Olivia home after dinner, but she asked if she could sleep over their house. We said yes and this made her big cousin Marissa so excited. She slept in one of Marissa's T-shirts like a nightgown and slept in Marissa's bed. Aunt Laura brought her home this morning since she was braving the mall at 7am this morning...crazy lady!
When Olivia got home this morning Erik was getting ready to leave for work and he gave her her special birthday present that she has been begging for. Fairy Tale Princess Dora, the one where her hair grows. Geez, every present she opened from everyone else, she was like, this isn't Fairy Tale Princess Dora. So anyway, she is now sitting on the couch brushing Dora's hair and getting extremely aggravated because she can't put the clips in herself. Oh what fun this will be!
